  • QuestionIf you do not have a drain and spin what do you use to when you need this feature? The whole idea is to get rid of excess water so I wouldn't want to rinse and spin. Thanks

    Asked by wondering.

    • Answer When you turn the knob to Rinse and Spin, the “Extra Rinse” button illuminates. Press that Extra Rinse button to turn off the rinse feature and the machine will spin without adding extra water. Here’s the title of a YouTube video we (FixThisHouse channel) created to show how this is done: “GE UltraFresh washer: GE UltraFresh Vent washer - how to Spin setting only, clothes washer“ Hope that helps!

  • QuestionAre these units stackable?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Yes, the instructions are included in the dryer installation manual. Also, both doors are reversible. The Geek Squad guy that did our install tried to tell me that they couldn't be, but after he left and I read the instructions, both doors can be flipped.

  • QuestionHow do you set this machine to "SPIN" only cycle? I washed bedding but the sheets were still too wet when the machine finished. It has a "RINSE & SPIN" but his is not what I am looking for.

    Asked by MMAGIRL69.

    • Answer Turn the knob to the rinse and spin cycle. The extra rinse button should light up. Press that button before pressing start and it should turn off the rinse portion of the cycle.

  • QuestionWe currently have a smart dispense and I do not like it. I like everything else about this machine, and was wondering if the smart dispense can be bypassed.

    Asked by SmartDispense.

    • Answer Hi - Thanks for reaching out to us regarding your new GE Washer Model # GFW850SSNWW. We are sorry to hear you are not happy with the SmartDispense option and have good news. If it is desired to manually add detergent for a load, that detergent will need to be added directly to the basket, and the SMART DISPENSE set to off for that particular load. The smart dispense feature can be disabled by pressing the SMART DISPENSE pad until off is selected. For reference and more details regarding this feature, please view page 12 of the Use and Care Guide here: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-3000217-2.pdf - We're glad to have you in the family and hope this is helpful. • QuestionCan this machine be set (even if we have to hire a technician) to ensure more water fills into the machine? Not enough water is a top complaint for front loaders. Have there been any complaints so far on the amount of water dispensed by this machine?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Wait, doesn't this machine have a "more water" option (4th one down left side on selection panel)? These pics below are from the 4.8 cu.ft. Model at Lowe's.

  • Questionhow does the washer vent when drying?

    Asked by br.

    • Answer Hi br - Thanks for considering GE! 1-Step Wash & Dry Cycle option (GFW850 model only) does it all for small loads. Use when clothes need to be washed, dried and ready to wear or finished the next morning. It differs from most combi units by drawing fresh air in to circulate and collect moisture before exiting. This feature will tumble clothes and introduce a constant stream of air into the washer compartment upon completion of select wash cycles. Inside the machine is an extra hose w/ fan assembly to blow air out of the machine; draws air through fresh vent. Although the drying portion is set to 8 hours, the clothes can be removed at any time by pressing Pause or Power to cancel the cycle. Remove and hang up for short time to remove rest of moisture remnants. It has visible option to start the UltraFresh Vent System with OdorBlock™ feature to dry out the washer. Note: Intended for small loads only. Does not work for large loads. The first and only UltraFresh Vent System with OdorBlock™ eliminates excess moisture to help prevent odors ensuring your washer stays fresh and clean. • QuestionCan you use detergent pods with this machine??

    Asked by MariaV.

    • Answer Yes, but you cannot put them in the dispenser. Just like other washing machines, they go into the tub with the clothes. You will also need to turn off the Smart Dispense for each load which is only a push of a button.

  • QuestionThis steam dryer comes with hoses. Does it also come with a "Y" connector to hook up both the washer and dryer?

    Asked by Nameisntfred.

    • Answer Hi Mark! Great question. The model listed here is the washer. However, we took a look at the paired dryer's (GFD85ESPNRS) manuals and found that this model does come with a "Y" connector. This information is based on what we're seeing on page 15 of the dryer's Installation Instructions. "Since the washer must also connect to the cold water, a “Y” connector is inserted to allow both inlet hoses to make that connection at the same time." We hope this helps and that you're staying safe! -Michael@GEA

  • QuestionWhen it dispenses the detergent this is only liquid detergent correct?

    Asked by Lucy.

    • Answer You have the option to use powder detergent if you would like. The SmartDispense is always on and uses only liquid detergent. You can turn that off with the push of a button for each load and there is a separate dispenser for liquid or powder detergent. The instructions explain it and all you have to do, besides pushing the button to turn off the SmartDispense, is move a small flap inside the liquid/powder dispenser and pour in the powder detergent. It is very simple.

  • QuestionDo you need a vent for the washer since it can do the wash and dry in same unit?

    Asked by Carolyn.

    • Answer Hi there, and thanks for your interest in this front load washer and its drying capability! We appreciate you reaching out and are happy to help. Our 1 Step Wash + Dry cycle is designed for smaller loads (about 2.5 lbs or 2 to 3 outfits). It's a great option if you need just a few items to be washed, dried and ready to wear by the next morning. To dry the load, the front vent damper opens and the Overnight Dry Fan will run. A vent is not needed for this function. After the normal wash cycle the fan will blow through the system to dry the clothes without heat; about 8 hours is added to the time with this setting. There are some examples of appropriate load sizes for this cycle in the use and care manual. We hope this information helps, and are happy to address any other questions. All the best! -Sarah@GEA

  • QuestionThe laundry room wall that the washer and dryer will be installed on is 35 inches deep is that deep enough to install this washer and dryer

    Asked by Thinking.

    • Answer To be honest, I think that would be frustratingly tight. From the front of the dryer to the back of the dryer vent (90º vent supplied by Best Buy) is right about 35" without any wiggle room at all. My wall depth is just under 43", and even that feels a bit tight with the swinging doors, etc. I hope this helps. Good luck!
