- Answer Hi Kris - Thanks for choosing GE Model JB860BJTS! We are excited to have you in the family. Flat bottom pans are essential for good cooking performance since the bottom of the pan needs to touch the glass for the best heat transfer. Stainless steel is highly recommended. A sandwich clad bottom is especially good because it combines the durability and stability of stainless steel with the heat conduction and distribution of aluminum or copper. Heavy-weight aluminum cookware is also recommended. It conducts heat faster than other metals and cooks evenly. Copper bottom pans are also good, but they can leave residues on the cooktop that appear as scratches. These can be removed if cleaned immediately, but do not let a copper bottom pan boil dry. An overheated copper pot will leave a residue that will permanently stain the cooktop. Porcelain coated cast iron cookware is okay as long as the cookware is covered completely with porcelain enamel. Caution is recommended when using cast iron cookware that is not completely covered with smooth porcelain enamel, as it may scratch the glass ceramic cooktop. - Answer Hello Richard - Thank you for reaching out about this amazing range. When using the oven, the bake cooking modes will utilize both elements. The primary heat source will be the bottom baking element, however, the top broil element will cycle on and off to provide a browning on top of the cooking food. We hope this helps. - Answer Hello Suzy, thank you for your question! This range does not come in our Fingerprint Resistant Stainless Steel. However, cleaning fingerprints and other soils from this appliance is simple! We recommend using mild soap (dish soap) with water using a soft cloth. For heavy soils: use a paste of baking soda and water while rubbing with a soft cloth. We do not, however, recommend using appliance wax, polish, bleach, steel wool, abrasives, ammonia, acids, or commercial oven cleaners as these could damage the surface of your appliance. QuestionDoes anyone have this range and the frame around the front and sides get too hot when the front burners are on? When we have the front burners on, the front gets too hot to touch. Scary since we have young kids in the house.

- Answer Hi SeoulGlo - Thanks for reaching out to us regarding your GE range. Our ranges meet all standards set by the Underwriters Laboratories (UL). UL evaluates external temperature limitations for ranges. The front and sides of a range can vary from 152 to 212 degrees F., depending on the materials. There are currently no temperature limitations for the horizontal surface, or cooktop, of a range. Left front burner is 3100 Watts (Power Boil) and right front burner is 3000 Watts. When the glass around each burner goes above 150 degrees F, the hot surface light will come on to remind you that the surface is hot. After the unit is turned off, the light will remain on until the area around the burner has cooled to below 150 degrees F. This usually takes about twenty minutes. Oversized pans will trap heat between the bottom of the pan and the cooktop; this will transfer a lot of heat to the cooktop. Your pans should not hang over more than one inch on each side of any surface burner. - Answer Hi MDCM - We advise not to use aluminum foil or liners to line oven bottoms. The foil will trap heat below, and upset the performance of the oven. Same is true for similar items such as silicone oven liners. Foil can melt and permanently damage the oven bottom. Damage from improper use of aluminum foil is not covered by the product warranty. Foil may be used to catch spills by placing a sheet on a lower rack, several inches below the food. Do not use more foil than necessary, and never entirely cover an oven rack with aluminum foil. Keep foil at least 1 ½” from oven walls to prevent poor heat circulation. QuestionI’m using my oven for the first time. A pan of potatoes is in the upper oven and a TON of steam is coming out of a small vent under the left hand burner control knobs (none on the right). The photo doesn’t show the amount of steam well. Is this normal??

- Answer Hi Molly - Thanks for reaching out to us regarding the steam. The oven is vented through a duct behind the right rear burner on the backsplash. This will cause that area of your cooktop to feel warm and may even seem to be turned on. It is normal to see steam and vapors coming from the oven vent during baking or roasting. Your new oven may be larger than your former range and, therefore, holds more food for baking and roasting. With this increased capacity, you may see an increase in visible steam and vapors. When using the convection feature, it is normal to see steam coming out of the oven vent. As the number of shelves or amount of food being cooked increases, the amount of visible steam will also increase. Keep in touch! Sue

In additional to volume (Lo, Med, High), the tone can be continuous (Con bEEP) or one repeating beep (bEEP). A continuous setting will continue to sound a tone until a button on the control is pressed. QuestionI read in the reviews that you have to do self cleaning before using the ovens and that the temperature gets high and there is a very caustic plastic smell. Is that true?

- Answer Yes. You should let it run for a while before using it the first time. There is also a smell that comes along with it. I was not advised to use self cleaning but to let it run at 400 degrees for an hour or so. Self cleaning will obviously get even hotter. I opened a window and it wasn't too bad. The smell hasn't occurred since.
