“I hooked up a four wire switch to three wire outlet. I did not connect the green wire to anything and my switch works perfectly ok. Am I fine to leave as is? I have the neutral wire connected. I have the red and black wires connected as well. Seems ok.”

PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS. The two ideas I could have of what you did are: A. You connected your neutral wire to ground and thus will be feeding current directly to ground, energizing the ground in your whole house which can short out other electronics at best, and cause multiple fires at worst. B. You do not have a ground or didn't realize that the copper wire in the box you installed this is what you'd connect the 'green' wire to. This means that any short the light socket has will just create a build-up in current and heat until something melts and/or causes a fire. While many old houses do not have ground wires, having a neutral wire but no ground is uncommon when I've done home electrical work. Please open it back up (after turning off power at the breaker) and check and see if you just missed the ground connection. If not, please talk to a licensed electrician about the wiring situation in your house as you may have a catastrophe on your hands in the near future. As someone who has installed these in multiple houses, they are fantastic and can drop in to any switch receptacle, but please get one that matches the wiring in your house.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Thanks for the detail. I did go out and purchase the 3 wire model. Not sure why it costs more for less wires but i connected black red and white so hoping I am all good now. I believe my white wire is a ground. House is from 1965. Thanks.
