A:AnswerHi there - Great question! Over-the-range microwaves cannot be used on a counter or shelf and are not UL approved for this purpose. Keep in mind the underside is not flat on over-the range microwaves and would not provide a stable surface. Additionally, there can be a heat issue, especially if the vent fan or surface lights were accidentally turned on. Thanks so much for checking! -MikaylaGEA

A:AnswerHi Lainey - Thanks for reaching out to us and for choosing GE Model #:
PVM9179SKSS. We are sorry to hear of the excessive grease and certainly understand your concern. The metal filters trap grease released by foods
on the cooktop and should be cleaned once a month, or as needed for best performance. To clean the vent filters, soak them and then swish around in hot water and detergent. Light brushing can be used to remove embedded grease. A:AnswerHi babyscout - Thanks for considering GE Profile Model PVM9179SKSS! Outside venting is preferable. If the model is not vented to the outside, the air will be recirculated through a disposable charcoal filter (included) that helps remove smoke and odors. The charcoal filter cannot be cleaned. It must
be replaced when it is noticeably dirty or discolored (usually after 6 to
12 months, depending on usage). Also, when replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model. The new screws, bolts, and exhaust adapter should also be used. We certainly appreciate your loyalty and glad to have you in the family. Keep in touch at GEAppliances.com. Sue
A:AnswerHello Micro30Secs - We are very sorry to hear about your microwave not operating properly. If the microwave runs but is not heating, it could be one of many components.
Make sure the “Timer” function was not inadvertently used.
Check to ensure the door is closed firmly. Close it firmly, but do not slam. This confirms the engagement of the door's safety mechanisms.
If the above suggestions do not solve the problem and the microwave still won't heat, we recommend contacting service. Please call 1-800-432-2737 to schedule an appointment with a certified service technician. - John
A:AnswerHi Hershel,
The new microwave will come with the parts necessary to install the unit. We would recommend using the items that come with the unit to install it and avoid using any older equipment/mounting kits. If you would like to see more about installing this unit, take a look at the instructions here: https://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-40769.pdf - Also, if you are wanting to install a 30" microwave into a 36" opening, you would need to purchase a filler kit in order to fill in those gaps on the sides. The part number for the filler kit that you would need is JX36DBB - We hope that this helped! Thank you so much for your question. -Michael
