QuestionThe thermostat is located in the master bedroom in my home. Will the Nest thermostat still work effectively ?

- Answer Yes it will work anywhere that you put it and will use temperature from your room to turn on air. Mine is in the front not door of house and gets all the heat from open and closing door. Can’t wait for the sensors. Hope this helps

- Answer The nest app does have an auto- schedule that learns your habits and when nobody is home. You can find this function by selecting the settings wheel on the nest home screen, then select your main thermostat. Auto- sensing isthe second option. You can also make a schedule for every day of the week. This can be done by selecting your main thermostat from the home screen (under the house pic). At the bottom of the screen you'll see schedule.

- Answer You would need to purchase one 3rd Generation Nest for each A/C unit you are controlling. Nest recently introduced the Nest Temperature Sensor which works in conjunction with the control unit, where you would place one of these sensors in the zone you want to set for optimal temperature. The logic is that typically the thermostat is not always placed in the room you want the most control. I have a home with three a/c units and added a Temperature Sensor to one bedroom since the thermostat was in the hallway. Works perfectly. Good luck.

QuestionI have a Hot water Heating system for heat. I have a AC unit for cooling. I have one thermostat that controls both. Does the nest have the ability to do that?

- Answer Nest controls both heating and cooling temps. It is designed to replace most normal thermostats.

QuestionIs there an off switch? Or is it allways on? What if I’m at home and I’m already comfortable with the temperature, can I just turn it off?

- Answer It’s a “learning” thermostat so if comfortable simply adjust manually by turning dial or via app and it will turn off the heating/cooling function until schedule changes or you change it.

- Answer Electric baseboard heaters don't use low voltage transformers to operate so I doubt that it would work.

QuestionI have 2 story home. Upstairs thermostat is low voltage. Downstairs is line voltage. Can I just install Nest on low voltage system and leave line voltage thermostat as is?

- Answer Probably not. The real value in this comes from the automatic programming and ability to control your thermostat remotely. If your home is normally a comfortable temperature anyways, I'm not sure that it'd be that easy to justify the 250$ price tag.

QuestionMy house has multiple thermostats. If I install Nest system I assume that each current thermostat must be replaced with a Nest device. Correct?

QuestionI know base comes in different colors (silver, white, copper, etc.). However, what background colors does it come in? Do these colors change, depending upon what the unit is doing? Or are they set or changeable?

- Answer No, at least from what I've been able to determine. The base is the base, and the display is white on black, though it changes color when it's heating (and, I presume, cooling).

- Answer A C-Wire is not required in the Nest thermostat (as it is required in the Lyric Thermostat) because Nest has managed to have the unit pull power from one of the other wires ... in other words, Nest has found a way to get just enough power from the existing setup without a C-Wire. Although having a C-Wire makes it very easy to install and operate. The Lyric, on the other hand, requires a separate C-Wire connection, or you must use highgrade, and expensive, lithium AAA batteries, which can be costly and have to be replaced at varying rates depending on your heating/cooling system. I had the Lyric and had to replace the battery every 3 weeks. It was annoying and expensive. The Nest, though, has worked with no problems now for three months straight using the existing wiring on my home system and without a C-Wire

QuestionSince 2 zone with 2 thermostat require 2 nest units, will nest have a 2 pack deal? Spending $500 on thermostat seems excessive and PGE only offers rebate on one unit.

- Answer They have sales from time to time and and many utilities have rebates for smart thermostats. I am unaware of any two pack sales. I had to buy two for my dual zone system. The money I saved on heating and cooling bills is worth it. Unless you know of a sale coming up, I wouldn't wait.

- Answer Call and ask. Amazon has install services available in many areas. I found it very easy to replace my old thermostat myself and you can probably find a video tutorial on YouTube that will cover the process.

- Answer I'd just inquire online about the NEST THERMOSTAT. We used a You Tube video to show us how to set it up & that would be very helpful to you, as it explains how to maneuver thru the screens, etc.

- Answer No, You can replace one at a time it will not effect the T stat in any way as they are separate zones. I purchase and installed mine one at a time to make sure I was happy with the product and the cost.
