When the Nest Secure system is set to Home and Guarding or Away and Guarding, there will be a heads up followed by a countdown before the alarm sounds. This countdown is customizable and you can select a time frame anywhere from 30 seconds up to 5 minutes. The rep stated that in "Home and Guarding" mode the alarm will sound immediately when a door/window is opened. This is the way my current "traditional" alarm system works. The only time a delayed alarm is used when you return to the house and it has been set on away.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Like traditional security system, the alarm will beep for the set time in 30sec/1min etc. after that the alarm will sound. This is why they have the keypad to give you enough time to access
