Yes! You will get a notification on the screen that it is in "Single Cartridge Mode" if you choose to only install a black ink cartridge, but it will definitely still print with just black!

It comes with a color as well as a black ink cartridge so you don't need to worry about spending money on a color cartridge as one should be fine if you won't be using it. I hope this helps.

When you print, you select whether you want to print black or print color. So if you print only black, you have the color cartridge in place that should never need a refill. Hope this helps!
