    Envelopes

After my Canon Pixma drove me to tears attempting to print envelopes, I decided to join the HP printer world. The HP Instant Ink program appealed to me, especially their cheapest plan, which is only a few dollars monthly. They send you ink with no additional charge whenever the printer tells them you're running low. I calculated I'd spend less on ink doing it through the plan than I do buying new ink myself each time. Also this way, it doesn't matter how much ink I use, as they only care about how many pages you print. The lowest plan allows for 50 pages (a buck more for an additional 15), and any unused pages will rollover to the next month (up to 50 for this plan). During the three month free trial period it allows you 300 pages per month, which is great because I am printing a lot more for Christmas. You can always change which tier you want at any time - such as upgrading to their next plan for a few bucks more and get 100 pages. Setting up was a breeze; I downloaded their app with my phone and easily had the printer connect to our network. It printed out it's own email, which I can supposedly email from anywhere to have it print something. I had no trouble with my computer connecting to the printer either, and that was without installing the provided software onto it. The first thing I tested after set up was a photo on regular letter paper which turned out fine. Then came the envelopes. My envelopes were 5.25 x 7.25" - a size they don't have programmed in the printer. I tried selecting the printer's 5x7 option, but it said it didn't match what was in the tray. I tried 5x8 and that worked, though I had to move things around a bit on my iMac to make it look right. The printer says you can input 10 envelopes at a time, though I felt it did better with less. I'm not sure if it's because the size was off, but it consistently bent one corner of the envelopes and left a smudge. Also, ~7 out of every 10 of the envelopes had the color off. Instead of being grey like it was supposed to, it would come out purple. I printed over 60, and it got jammed 3 times. Whether that's too much or acceptable will be personal opinion. After my Canon jammed just about every one, I found this workable. They came out pretty straight, only a few were a little skewed. It's not very fast, but I didn't need it to be. I'd rather keep change in my pocket. It's decent; not a perfect printer, but I was happy to finally get the envelopes printed. I will be contacting HP about the color issue though. I mean, come on, you have one job. A printer should print the color it was told. If you aren't planning on printing envelopes, or only plan on using that feature with a standard size envelope every once in a while, this printer shouldn't give you trouble. If you are planning on printing many envelopes like myself on custom sizes, then you have to weigh the pros and cons I mentioned. Make of this what you will. Hoping this helps with your decision.

    I Hate It!

I like this printer except for one thing, which makes me hate it! The problem I have with it is there is a huge gap between the scanner glass, and the plastic around it where you line up the sheet to scan. This is very frustrating because whenever I scan or copy something, it comes out crooked and wastes paper and $50 ink!! I can actually fit 6 sheets of HP's own MultiPurpose Paper, or even a credit card in there the gap is so big! I must have spent an hour and a half trying to explain this to the HP tech person, and he just would not understand!! I sent him a pic of 6 sheets of paper stuck under the plastic "alignment" edge all fanned out so you could count the sheets. His response was, "is that how you try to scan?"! I then sent him a pic of a credit card stuck under the alignment edge. His response was something like "go ahead and try to make a scan"! WTF, he didn't have a clue what I was talking about, even after sending him pics!! I am 57 years old and retired. I have owned many printer/scanners, and have used Many More at work. I have Never seen one with a gap between the glass, and the alignment edge, especially big enough to fit 6 sheets of paper, or a credit card!! This is a problem for me! Update 12/30/16: This has nothing to do with the printer itself, just what happens if you get a bad one. It is now 4 months old and driving me crazy! 8 more months of warranty left, but tonight I got fed up and decided to try again to contact them. This time I called, jumped thru numerous hoops in their menu that just about made me give up! Finally get a real person, and she already knew who I was, so obviously she had my #! I try to explain the problem, and once again it appears she is not getting it!! Then we get disconnected! She knows I am already frustrated, but do you think she would call me back?! So I try another route. I fill out all the contact info thinking I will be able to send an email, but all it did was give me a case #, and a number to call. I try again, and same frustrating menu and finally get someone again. BTW, I don't believe that any of the three contacts were in the US! Anyhow, I told her I got disconnected last time, and asked if she had my # to call me back if this happens again. She said yes, and she will! Guess what, get disconnected yet again, and yet gain, no call back!!! WTF?! So much for a warranty if you can’t explain it in chat, can't send an email, and can't talk to anyone on the phone that will understand before you get disconnected!!

    Connection is cr*p

I have had a HP all in one printer before that lasted for 4 years until we moved, probably would have lasted longer. So, since i am in school full time virtually it is extremely important that I have an all in one printer. This one was on sale and did the minimal that i needed. BUT, It continuously wont connect to my home network. Like ALLL the TIME! Every day and multiple times a day i will have to shut it off, or shut off the wifi connection, and restart the whole thing just to get it to connect to the network. My computer and iPad says it is not connected and that is accurate, but at the same time the printer says it IS connected. Which is completely wrong. Recently it would not scan because it said it wasn't connected to a computer, BUT it would not let me try and connect to email after this. I shut it down three times and completely unplugged it for 10 minutes and it still would not give me another option or even try to connect again. HOW FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!! This printer has literally made the most simply task take 50 times longer then it should. I had to take pictures and upload them to submit to my instructor instead of scans because of this piece of cr*p. What a fr**king joke. And no it is not my network because no other device EVER has an issue. Had to add stars because they think those are "bad" words, when i'm sure you know i'm actually saying much worse!

Best printer I've owned and only paid $30 for it!

I bought the Envy 4520 while it was on sale during Black Friday 2018. It was definitely an impulse purchase, so I didn't take the time to research it very thoroughly. However, after setting it up and using it for just over a month, I'm blown away at the quality of the hardware, software and features this offers! The wireless printing was the biggest selling point for me and configuration is super easy, even if you aren't a hardcore techy like me. I originally planned to connect this to my laptop using a USB cable, but the wireless printing and scanning is so easy and powerful, I've since changed my mind and will just be using this exclusively as a wireless device. Every day I use it, the first thought that comes to mind is "what a great purchase!" as I marvel at the cool stuff this can do, but my $300 Brother Laser printer is unable to do (to be fair, my Brother *is* 5+ years old, so it was released just when wireless printing was becoming ubiquitous). In terms of features and quality, I highly recommend this to anyone who isn't doing a ton of printing (please note the 100-400 pages/month recommendation) and needs a modestly sized all-in-one for printing and scanning. The one aspect of the printer I haven't yet had to use is the Instant Ink feature. I've done some reading on it, and there are some definitely customer satisfaction issues with HP's program, but I always withhold personal judgment until I can evaluate it for myself. Once I've had an opportunity to buy my first 2 ink cartridges, I'll see if I can update this review and offer my thoughts.

By far the easiest printer I have ever set up .The wireless almost immediately when I turned the PC Bluetooth on printer connected the phone turn on Bluetooth immediate connection. The head alignment procedure was quick and easy with minimal ink usage compared to others that use all the ink supplied. There is a paper compartment that conceals the paper keeps it fresh dust free The Scanner another slam dunk. Open software choose scanner done starts immediately. The best part Instant Ink I was skeptical I signed up now totally amazed. HP offers multiple plans to suit every need with the option to stop or change plans anytime you want again very simple no phone calls all through the net. The printer must stay online at all times. Prior to completing the instant ink sign up the first supply was already in the system to ship arrived three days later. I have had the unit over a month now I don't get annoying emails its connected HP monitors sends ink and bills accordingly to the chosen plan at a highly discounted price shipping included. Its awesome the best printer I have purchased at a very affordable price.

Been using this for almost a week and I have had nothing but a positive experience. Set up was a breeze, I opted to download the software from HP's website rather than use the included disk and had no issues. I cannot speak on the wireless functions of this printer as I connect to it via usb to avoid any connectivity issues; however I can say the usb connection has been flawless. The small form factor of this printer and its low price point are a definite plus. Print quality is good considering how inexpensive this printer is, text and scans look fine to me. The software is easy to use and the touchscreen on the printer itself has been working fine. It's not the most responsive touch screen ever but it definitely gets the job done. I do have a few gripes however, the first being that this printer does not come with a usb cable so be prepared to purchase one separately if you plan on connecting via usb. Second, but obvious, is ink is expensive for this printer. You should also be prepared to have a pop up window appear every time you print trying to get you to sign up for the instant ink program. Overall a good printer for light home use or student use.

I have had this printer for almost 2 weeks and love it. It's compact, fast and communicates with my laptops, iphone and ipad. That's why I purchased it.. The BUT.. is that HP has a new ink delivery system you can use with this printer. You register for "instant ink" and the printer communicates with HP and you receive ink cartridges before you run out. Great concept! Except for the fact that the monthly payment plans are according to pages printed. This is a completely flawed system. Not all pages use the same amount of ink. After I accidentally printed an improperly formated excel spreadsheet.. I was notified that I exceeded my monthly printed sheet limit. That I would be charged more for an additional 30 sheets or I should upgrade my plan.. which meant more money per month. They claim you can save quite a bit of money per year but I'm not going to be a hostage to paying HP every month because my printer spits out a few sheets with one line of text on it. They can claim I'm going to save money but I don't want to find that after 6 months I have spent way more then if I ordered ink online myself. I can definitely see this happening. So I cancelled my subscription.

Sticking with HP in the printer world has always seemed a smart choice to me. Mother needed a new printer that would be Windows 10 accessible, and this fit the bill. Love the finish, was declared a tad "cheap" by reviews online but when pulled out of package was surprised to see it was a cleaner finish then described. More efficient then her previous unit, with faster scanning options then expected. The touch pad options menu is a bit different, but it works efficiently and seems easy enough to grasp for those who aren't used to it. Having the option to be able to print something back at home, while out and about, via your phone is definitely a cool option for "busy bodies." If I were to write anything of concern for prospective buyers, it would be: 1. Understand this machine's width. It is a wider machine then I expected and barely fit her desk area. 2. The printing tray method, while not concerning in terms of how much the flipper could hold, needs to be noted in any living space as well. In areas where users could be walking through consistently, like a business space, the unit's flipping out tray could be a concern and potentially damaged. That is a perception thing on my part, so it'd be smarter for future purchasers to allocate space in an office to allow freedom of movement, with the system undeterred. However, the benefit of this tray is that it is easily put away to minimize the larger then expected footprint when not in use. So far, works great a few months in! Easily turns on/off as well, if some people find slow shut downs bothersome.

I had gone to Best Buy to buy a cheap printer fast because I had about an hour to print and send an important paper. When I got to Best Buy I was between a Brother and a Cannon printer. One of the employees asked me if I had any questions and I was like not really and he was like if u are looking for a good printer check of the HP Envy 4520. I told him that I just wanted something cheap and he was like for a couple more dollars you will get way better quality. He also explained some benefits of HP which was what convinced me to buy it. Now, I love my HP Envy. It's fast and easy to use. I love the fact that I don't have to go and buy ink since HP will mail me one when I need it. The price for this service is not too expensive but I would have liked it to be a little cheaper, always looking to save some bucks. I recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a small/medium printer. I've had 3 different printers and this by far has been the best.

My previous 3-in-1 printer was on the outs and I had no other choice to pony up on a new one. My local store didn't have the printer I came to buy. After a quick google search and a talk with a Best Buy representative I settled with this one and I have not regretted it. My use of it so far is limited to five pages at a time, maybe two or three times a week and it excels at it. I have it set up on WiFi and I have not had significant problems with it but it is only a few feet from my router - so I can not testify to the range of the WiFi. I have problems with this printer but they are minor. If my printer sits in sleep mode up to a week's time or more often my computer won't recognize it on my network despite me waking up my printer. Turning the printer off then turning it back on will solve this. I check the printer's settings and it is definitely on my WiFi network but my computer doesn't see it. I can't help but wonder if I had it plugged directly into my computer I wouldn't have this problem. Another small but worthy con to mention is that printing is a bit slow. I just timed it while writing this review and it took 15 seconds for one full page of black print; however, I have felt before that it took much longer than this. Maybe I was only in a rush at that time (then compounded by having to turn it off then turn it on).

My $200 printer died. I will never pay that much again for a printer. I looked up online before I headed to the store to see what was available and in a decent price range. This printer fit the specs I was looking for. Set-up was very simple. I did not use the CD for set-up, I went directly to the website and got all the latest updates and software. I read the reviews about the envelopes printing crooked. They might be slightly crooked but to me, that is no big deal. I also read reviews about the pictures printer with a white border on 3 sides. You need to go in and adjust your settings on the picture program you are using. Once I did that, they printed out great. Overall, I am very happy with the printer. One other review that I read that the printer would keep losing the wi-fi connection. I have yet to have that issue. My printer is on one floor and my router is on another. I would definitely buy another one.

I tend to buy inexpensive printers and when they quit working (which they always do), recycle them and buy a new one. So I don't usually have high expectations from printers in this price range, and this particular one certainly did not exceed them. First off, print quality is good. I have not printed any photos on photo paper, but have printed a lot of graphics-heavy stuff. Been pretty pleased with that. Duplexing "works" except by "works" I mean it may or may not work, and will arbitrarily decide to grab a new piece of paper rather than print on the second side of the first one. It works about half the time, which means you really can't use it. USB connectivity is AOK but wifi doesn't work. The printer will say it's connected, and maybe 1 out of 10 tries to print to it will succeed. I've tried from two different computers, too - same result. I've been working on and programming computers since the DOS days, so I like to think I know a thing or two about them. Printers are evil pieces of demon spawn sent to Earth to torment us who just want a printout at 11pm and don't want to spend 45 minutes to get one piece of paper printed. And.... this printer does nothing to change my opinion. I'd say keep on looking at others f you were contemplating this model.

My previous printer was an HP Photosmart 3-in-1 which lasted a good long time. However, it was terrible to install/reinstall. Moving frequently during its lifetime, that caused me extreme anguish, since putting it on different networks and routers proved more difficult with each successive move. Finally, it just would NOT reinstall. So with much trepidation I sought out a new printer. Many of the reviews I read left me with mixed feelings in that nearly every printer received both excellent and very poor ratings for the installation process. This one was no different but I had to buy something, so I took a chance. I am so happy! This printer practically installed itself and worked correctly from the get-go. So far I have had ZERO problems with its operation or connectivity. Bonus: it was inexpensive to start with...AND it was also on sale at Best Buy...a multiple winner in my book! Hey, this printer also is able to automatically print on both sides of the paper. Awesome! But a warning to those of you out there who are way too impatient for your own good. To be a good product not everything has to be faster than greased owl...well, lightening fast. This one is not FAST but for me, it is acceptable...not slow...but acceptable. If you NEED high volume or quick action, then you have to spend way more that I spent on this printer. Regardless, this is a fine product; don't deride it for not being super slick...or Hank will pay you a little visit for an "Attitude Adjustment". Merry Christmas, all!

I purchased this as a special buy for Best Buy members on the week of Black Friday for $60. At the time I only had a black and white laser printer that I could only print from with my computers. I was wanting an all in one so I could print from my iPhone and iPad, scan documents, and print in color. I had my eye on a cheaper Canon at Walmart but decided to go with this HP instead. The ink is much cheaper than the Canon and is good for me since I mostly still use the laser printer to print black and white documents. But for all its other functions, it's great at what it does. It has this really cool feature as well where you can email it documents and if it's in sleep mode it'll print them out so they'll be ready when you get home. I also really like how the paper is stored in a tray that slides into the printer, just like my laser one. This keeps the paper clean and stored neatly, so it doesn't stick out in the way or feed dust into the printer eventually clogging something. I admire HP for everything on this printer.

Bought it alongside my new 'expensive' HP Spectre 2 in 1 laptop several weeks ago. Since the first set up, there have been issues with being off line, despite being on line with the blue wireless light on, and every time I need to print I restart my laptop so that they talk to each other! Nowadays it has developed another defect, it gives error in mid document and stops printing half page then restarts again and does that once more on a different page and restarts printing again. The disruption this printer has caused me, despite printing only few pages a day, is unbelievable. On the good side, it makes me think twice (in fact thrice!) before printing something so good for environment. I stopped printing completely and take my notes on the screen, however inefficient that may be...

I bought this printer today, with minimal assistance as the store was very busy, and it was woefully understaffed. I waited 20 minutes for some help beyond a Google rep drinking a Mountain Dew who knew nothing about printers or basic customer service. It was reasonably easy to set up, and I had done my research online before purchase. Plastered all over the box and printer itself is "Save 50 % off ink with HP instant ink." A three month free trial is included if you sign up during set up. I attempted to take advantage of this during set up, and I was connected to the internet. Though this is a wireless printer, you can use a USB cable and I do. I double checked with the HP rep that was coming on duty as I was leaving that it worked perfectly well with a USB cable. However, no where during set up or in manual does it say that this is not available if using USB. Right after I asked the rep about using a USB cable, he handed me a flyer for the Instant ink plan. I made my decision based partially on ease of ink replenishment and cost savings. I shouldn't have had to go to online support to find out the limitations after I made my purchase.

Bought it to work with my notebook, while on an extended visit with my grandchildren. (I leave a multi-function machine in my children's basement to use when I travel to Chicago area from FL.) Did everything I asked it to without a hitch. Downloaded drivers, installed them without a hitch. Immediately started printing and scanning (with Foxit PDF). Easily printed envelopes. Good little light duty machine.. Doesn't take up a lot of space. No paper jams. Good print quality. Would be fine for anyone needing a light duty multi-function printer that doesn't take up a lot of space. .The only reason, I didn't give it 5 stars was I only printed approximately 300 pages and scanned about 100 pages in 3 week period and then packed it up for the next trip. I don't know how it would be if you printed 500-600 pages a month. Only downside, essentially limited to scanning 8.5 x 12 sheets. Doesn't scan legal sized paper.

I set up this printer with a min. of effort. However it kept loosing the wifi connection. I had to re-enter the wifi details to get it to recognize my laptop. This happened 3 times. The next problem was the drawer for the paper. It would not close all the way. I had to stand the printer on the back and pull it out and re place it, before it would go all the way back. Every time I had to replace paper, the draw would remain open. The printer just says, "Please close the paper drawer". I have tried to open and close it a number of times. It just won't clear this message and let me print. The last time I tried The tab on the back broke off. I GIVE UP. I have up-graded my printers over the years. This is the first time I have ever had a problem like this. I think HP is trying to compete in this price range and they just can't build a really good product. I see that other people love this printer, I'm sorry but I've owned and used a number of HP products and never had a problem like this. No I didn't force the drawer, it just never worked from the start. Yes I agree, I should have returned it from the start, however I bought it because I needed it right away.

I have always liked and purchased HP products, and so I was saddened that I have to give this printer a negative review. Right out of the box I had problems with the setup of the printer. The ink cartridges did not fit correctly, and I had to call technical support. After spending almost an hour on the phone, HP agreed to send a new black cartridge after determining that the one we had was defective... or so we thought. They were supposed to overnight the new cartridge, but in fact the new ink cartridge came 3 days later. This one also did not go in easily, but finally did snap in. After what took almost another hour to setup, the firmware in the printer would not complete and displayed a dialog asking me to purchased an updated driver in order to complete installation. At that point, I packed up the printer and returned everything back to the store. To Best Buy's credit, I had no issues returning the printer and was given a full refund as advertised. I have since purchased the Epson Workforce WF-2630 from Best Buy and I am pleased with my purchased. You should consider this printer instead.

    Not great for photos

Pretty disappointed. Our Epson got crushed during our move and we needed a replacement. We just printing a bunch of photos for our new apartment and couldn't hang any of them. There was always a slight hue to the photos we printed and nothing printed sharp. We went through ink quick and it doesn't have individual color cartridges, so when any color runs out, you need to replace the whole cartridge. Maybe my hopes were too high for a hundred dollar printer, but for photos you'll be a little disappointed. It was faster than our artisan, but that's not too big a benefit if they are soft and had a color cast. Our black and white photos kept printing with either a magenta or blue hue until we physically took out the color cartridge. I've had good luck with all my other HP products we use at work, but feel like this consumer level product isn't worth it. Unfortunately we will be returning for another Epson.
