You have to enroll in the HP InstaInk program separately. It's a program for ink and printing, that's a subscription-based program. Select from free and paid accounts. You'll be chatted based on the amount of printing you do. The ink levels are monitored, and you automatically receive ink cartridges in the mail before you run out. The cost of ink is figured into the program level you select. You are charged each month, after the initial 3 free months & 300 free pages.

Back in the day Kodak sold cameras at bargain prices, but got you whenever you bought film. Same with many appliances that are bargain-priced but which require you to buy refills and parts that can only be obtained from the manufacturer.
