“out of one ink will this printer print if the color ink is out”

• Hello, I see that you are interested in knowing if the ENVY 5540 will print black and white if the color ink is out. Unfortunately you will need to have all ink cartridges (black and Tricolor) present and filled with ink to be able to print in black and white; and vice versa. Hopefully that helps you out, and thanks again for choosing HP.
