Check the different source settings on the soundbar remote

I had a problem installing, also. Found out that the red light which I thought indicated it was on, actually is on when the unit is off. The source light comes on when the unit is on and the red light is off. Hope this helps.

That's a hard question to answer without being in front of your equipment to see the setup and available menu options on the TV. However, I would suggest trying different cables or if your TV has an optical out - use an optical cable instead. A decent quality optical cable is pretty cheap these days. I have mine connected to a 42" Samsung Smart TV via optical. My sound works fine and is very pleasing considering the size and price of this unit. Hope you are able to figure it out!
