Yes, they are completely separate. The antenna will give you all of your local channels and more depending on your location.

Ok so seriously… I have an LG tv. After I hooked up my antenna. I got 22 channels local and the antenna is not by a window. Then it has LG channels associated with the antenna. It says I have another 280 channels!! I’m not lying… it’s crazy! I dumped cable saving $200/month!!!
