I would make sure everything is clean on the N64, check all of the connections. They can be pretty difficult if there's any dust. I had that same issue when I first fired it up, but a few passes with a can of air fixed it right up. I would also try running the N64 on an older TV if possible, to make sure it is actually on. Check all of the cabling, test the HDMI on something else if possible to make sure it's good, then make sure the HDMI port you're plugged in to matches what your TV is set to display.
