This converter takes the 3 RCA cables out of the player (Red, White and Yellow) and plugs them into the converter which has an HDMI plug to go out to your HDMI device. With only one HDMI slot on the TV, then your Cox HDMI and the converter HDMI should be connected to your switch and then one HDMI cable from the switch goes to the TV. I have a similar switch I use from my old Xbox 360 and my newer Xbox One since I have limited NDMI to my TV.
