Does not automatically shut off. Just use your irons or dryers for time allotted or less to prevent overheating. I had no overheating incidents and I followed those guidelines specifically.

The converter will get hot in the process of stepping the voltage down. The converter does not shut off on its own, you would need to discontinue using after about 10 minutes so that it can cool down.
