Power supply will for a hook up the unit if you use as home stereo and it easy to do and dose not hurt amp unit or speakers. Best way to test before install.

You would connect the speakers to the stereo like normal. Then you would connect the stereo to either a car battery or a computer power supply. Just make sure the power supply is able to handle it.

I don’t know that what you are proposing would work. I believe it has to be connected to a 12 volt battery.
