“I just bought this subwoofer and my aftermarket Kenwood stereo receiver has a sub pre out plug, do I still need an amplifier or can I connect the sub straight to my receiver?”

You still need a subwoofer amplifier, the sub out on the back of your Kenwood radio is to connect your subwoofer rca cables to your subwoofer amplifier so that you can adjust your subwoofer amplifier "your bass" up and down from the Kenwood stereo instead of needing "or wanting" a separate bass control knob up front with you to turn up or down the bass depending on what your listening too.
