Would one inch of clearance from the back of the sub to the back wall of the box be enough for it to breathe and cool correctly? The mounting depth is 5.8 so would a box that’s 6.8 deep be enough for it to operate without any issues?

Yes it works fine. Make sure the port length and width are proper as per spl box specifications.

Its up to you. But for me i gave 1 feet of clearance from the back of the magnet to have more space for the bump i want and room for air to flow.
