A SIM card: SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module. It is what a cellular carrier supplies a subscriber (user) so he/she can use their company's cellular service with the subscriber's specific phone. It is unusual for a computer to have one, since most people don't need to directly connect their computer to cellular service, but either use an Ethernet or WiFi connection. The only types of laptops that ever have them are some gaming, and many business/enterprise computers.
What I believe you are asking about is an SD card: SD stands for Secure Digital. This is a removable flash memory card that stores and transfers digital data. Phones, tablets, computers and cameras often have them. It is usually used for data storage only, especially photos and movies, but it is not impossible to store any digital file, like pdf, doc, xcl, etc.
So yes, an SD card slot is the same as a media slot.
