This is a yes and a no answer. With the SJ9 model you are futureproofed, so any new shows on Netflix for example that has Atmos support will play Atmos content automatically. So yes, its worth the upgrade. For standard, no, its not worth the upgrade and your 5.1 will do just good. However, the SJ9 does both Atmos and Standard. My experience; I spend about 2 hours searching for Atmos content when I got this sound bar and sub. The Atmos experience is just mind blowing! I'm comparing this to a 3 year old, $7,000 home surround setup that does not have Atmos. - Hope this helps :)
