“no matter what I choose to use I cannot get a totally cold wash/rinse cycle. cold, cold tap and cold wash cycles all use some sort of heat. how do I shut off the heat?”

All temperature settings use a little warm water to aid in the washing process. This cannot be disabled as it is normal operation for the washing machine.
