If I understand your question correctly, it will do both. You can set it up to clone your router's SSID for seamless transitions and range extension, or you can set it up as a totally separate access point (with its own SSID and network name). Hope this helps!

However, you can configure the unit manually and change the extended network name to your preference. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Both. At first it comes up as ( xxx-ext) where the x's are your ssid name. After you set it up you can go into the extender's menu and ( mesh ) the ssid's together. This is what enables the seamless roaming.
