Q: QuestionI am currently using an Apple Airport Extreme as router and backup. Can I connect this to the Velop HDMI port and only use the backup function?

• A:Answer I assume you mean the Ethernet port. But it will work. It’s just not honestly going to be a big improvement. If you can’t find another airport to add to the network to extend the network then sure add these. But the technology is close enough that you won’t really notice an advantage with “mesh”.

Q: QuestionI have several wired devices that I want to attach: Chamberlain garage door system, NAS drive, Xbox (I know I don't but it would be faster), Hue hub. Will I be able to do that with the mesh?

• A:Answer The nodes have two switch ports per node. You can hard wire but it doesn't make your devices faster, just makes for a more reliable connection. Speeds will depend on your ISP, what you're paying for and your modem.

• A:Answer The nodes themselves don't impose a limit, other than what is possible with either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz frequencies. I have 150Mb Xfinity internet and I get those speeds on both nodes. I get almost the same as if I connected via hard wire.

• A:Answer I would not consider the Orbit, as I already have Alexa (several styles) in the home. I don't feel it's necessary to have it as a built in component. It might be a nice thing, if you do not already have the Alexa. Consider the cost in your decision.

• A:Answer As I understand, either could be set up as an access point to the other, but separate SSID would be needed for each band. I used my old router as a switch to help keep wired connections that I already had, especially since each Velop unit has only two Ethernet ports. Just turn off DHCP, and make sure the old router IP address does not conflict with Velop units. Having just one SSID is wonderful after having to use a dual band router with a dual band access point. Having four SSID names all over the house was a hassle.
