I read the material...it said no and also during the setup it also stated it would not work. However...I set it up last night and I set up an identity for the Fire TV anyway as the instructions said it could help for some other reason that I now forget. I was really surprised to find that on my TV it worked when I chose the correct HDMI slot from the remote. The back button did not match the one on the remote...but it had a screen option to perform this function. I think that I can go back and re-associate the correct button with that function. The navigation buttons and select buttons worked perfectly. I have an LG OLED if that makes any difference...I don't know. So...I could not guarantee the same results on any other TV. I would guess that the chances are good though. Good Luck.
