No, it does not have to be reprogrammed after a battery swap. In fact, I will sometimes pull the batteries just to do a "soft reset" on the 655. And since you are a legacy Logitech user, you will be happy to know that the new MyHarmony web-based setup program is light years better than the old program and is very easy to use. And if for whatever reason your remote loses its programming, just plug the remote into a USB port on your computer and use MyHarmony to resync (re-program) the remote in a few minutes. Very simple.
