Some Smart TV and ROKU apps only support keyboard-ish by letting you use the arrow keys to move to a letter on the screen then press enter to select it (no real advantage over just using the TV remote). Whether this is the case varies app by app, and even within some apps, but most seem to be like this. Some apps DO use the keyboard effectively, but so far they are rare.
So, the problem seems to be an app software design issue, NOT a keyboard issue. But, same result: in most cases I can not use the keyboard effectively. In a few rare cases I can.
