Sounds like you have your remote wire connected to non switched power source. Id recommend having a professional look at it. I do vintage audio restoration for a living and trust me its worth knowing its done right. There are so many things that if not right can and will lead to a fire and its not worth a risk of Injury or death to save a few bucks.
