You can add a micro SD card - i use a 128GB SD card - it's slower than the internal SSD but for storing pictures and files it works.

The SSD of any Surface device cannot be updated at a later time. If you need more memory, we highly recommend looking into a Surface Pro 6 with greater internal storage, or look into other external Surface storage options which you can find here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4075130/surface-windows-81-surface-storage-options.
