You would have to pay for an internet service (Comcast, Cox, etc.) to get internet. If you are not familiar with any of it, it'll be easier to just get these devices on rent from the service provider for an extra $10-12 per month. Otherwise you need to also buy a wifi router along with this device. Or else buy a wifi router combo device (MOTOROLA MG7540 is most popular) instead of buying this modem and a router separately. But before buying anything, make sure that your internet provider needs these devices (many providers have a different technology which doesn't need any of these devices). Good luck!
