“My Nexus P5x die 2 weeks ago. This is a good cheap unlocked replacement except for a lack of security updates. I can live with 7.0 but the security update on this brand new phone is Jan 1st 2017! When will we get a security patch?”

Nobody knows when the next security patch will come out, so you will have to wait until Motorola (or Levono) announces an upcoming software update on the Moto G5 Plus.
