I have not used the phone as much as I would like because it's a second phone that I'm going to use for my business but this is my impression so far: it is an amazing phone it's really fast it seems really well-made and feels good in my hand by the way I'm a fairly big guy everything works including the camera and the microphone up-to-date version Android is really great. The software that comes with it is unobtrusive and works really well for stuff like navigation and voice commands. The battery life at least for my uses been phenomenal.
The more I use this phone the more I like it and that makes it hard for me to believe that I got it for only a little over $200. Crazy good deal. Moto 5 plus gets my vote as the best budget Android smartphone so far. Octa-core CPU, 5 MP front facing , 12 MP rear, finger print sensor, nice screen , sd card slot , dusl sim, etc etc. Checks all the boxes.

Hard to find a better phone at this price point. Attractive design, solid camera, sharp screen. Single speaker my major complaint.

This is one of the most unenjoyable phones I have ever owned. It was horribly difficult to manage security and the manual on/off volume buttons were poorly placed and so close together it was a nightmare.
My husband's g4 had a better operating system among other available updates that were not available for the g5 plus!?!
Way too expensive to put up with

For just under $230 (pre-tax), this phone is a good buy.
Cons:
Wish placement of power button and volume controls were reversed or power button was moved to too of phone.
Has locked up a few times and will not work with one of my favorite apps, TimeTune. (Stops working when I attempt to restore data from Google Drive.)
I was told that the speakerphone sound quality is lacking.
Unfortunately, Clipboard is less than desirable. At times, it does not launch when text is selected. Also, it does not have a built-in Clip Tray to facilitate copy/cut/paste functions.
Pros:
Nice size.
The handset call sound quality is great.
The camera takes quality photos and videos.
Comes with tool to open Sim Card/SD Card compartment.
Does not overheat like older phones.
Has terrific battery life.
Overall, I am satisfied with this phone and would recommend it to someone looking for a reasonably priced, unlocked smart phone.

Best Economy Smart Phone Hands-down. txting issues

Excellent phone! Best Economy smart phone hands-down. Does everything you need, looks and feels good, screen size and resolution and pic/ vid quality are more than acceptable. Great Battery life! My wife was a die-hard i-phone / mac user - now she doesnt want to hear about i-phones - (too expensive for no reason)! She uses this for calls, txt, browsing the net, watching vids, snapchat/ instagram/ fb. Absolutely no issues with any of that (except some minor txt stuff mentioned in a bit that worked out). Thankfully, no battery issues, unlike the previous model (I had a Moto G4 that started giving weird screen flickering/ freezing, and would not hold charge, after having it for only 6 months) Had this G5 now about as long as that and it works perfectly. There were a few issues early on with txt msgs and group msgs not coming through from certain numbers, but we worked with our carrier to sort it out. Tried a bunch of things, something eventually worked. Think it might have been because she ported a number from an iphone - folks with iphones who had her number stored, when they tried to send txts, it was still automatically trying to send as an i-msg. Talk to the carrier and they can work it out or tell you what to do. No issues anymore.

If you use every single feature in a $1000 IPhone or $850 Samsung Galaxy this is not the phone for you. On the other hand if your usage is the same as the other 95% the Moto G is for you. If is virtually impossible to tell the difference between this Moto G "economy phone" for $200 plus and a smartphone five times the cost. If it is Android it will run on the Moto G. Photo quality is excellent as well. Big plus is the fact that it is unlocked. It is yours to use on whatever network you want ... Travelling overseas? Just pick up a cheap local SIM card, plug it in and do cheap calls home at local rates, Then again you can buy a $1000 smartphone at Verizon under contract and be forced to pay $6 a minute to call home from the UK.

My original phone was a Nexus 5x, absolutely loved this phone and got very spoiled by the quick updates and stock Android, but only had 16 GB of storage and the Nougat update pretty much took up all the space, so sold it and tried a Zte Axon 7 mini (had a few issues and definitely no 5x in the software dept), Moto X pure (solid phone but I broke the screen) Honor 5x (work well at first but again software problems later). Now with all that said, it would be logical for me to find something that was as zippy as my Nexus with more storage and stock Android. Which brings us to the Motot G Plus an answer to my needs with a fantastic price tag, sure there are cons that some reviewers are crying about such as ads, speaker not as loud as an iPhone 7 (really??? lol) and having to tap the fingerprint twice to wake. Now these may be deal breakers for some but not I, and more focus on a phone that just got released with no major bugs, very good performance and battery life, at least in my case, I stream music during bike rides 2-4 hours, use google maps, bike app, 2-3 calls per day and still have around 70% at 10pm, and more bells and whistles such as gorgeous screen, outstanding camera (despite some other reviews who state picture quality is bad? maybe they are professional photographers or all comparing it to iPhones 7's ?).

My very 1st Smartphone was a Lumia 635 (T-Mobile), used it for a year then bought and used a Lumia 640-LTE (Cricket) for 2 years. I bought this Moto G5 Plus about a month ago as an Upgrade to the 640.
This G5 Plus is my 1st Taste of a Top Tier'ish Phone. It's much faster and has longer battery life then my 640. The G5 Screen is more precise, prettier and brighter then the 640. In every way this G5 Plus is much plushier and higher quality then my 640
Some Nice Abilities of the G5 Plus:
1. It is Unlocked to Both GSM & CDMA Networks. Do not underlook this Advantage, being Compatible to "Both" Networks is Hugely Advantageous.
2. G5 Plus has a Magnetometer (Compass) & FM Radio Chips. Both can be very useful in specific situations.
3. "TurboPower" Recharge. Uses a 15-Watt recharge to recharge the Phone in a Hurry. Turbo Recharge is really nice.
4. Has a HeadPhone Jack. Needed for the FM Radio, for the HeadPhone is the Antenna.
5. Has Android "7 Nougat" installed and is Guaranteed by Motorola to get the Upgrade to Android 8. The Guaranteed Upgrade to 8 is really a nice Boon.
6. The 5.2" Screen is just about Perfect Size, not too big nor too small, Fits Comfortably in One Hand yet Screen is Large Enough for Excellent Viewing.
This is a Huge Upgrade to my Lumia 640, am Very Glad I bought this G5 Plus. It is a Wonderful Phone and could easily be mistaken for a $400+ Phone.
My Only Complaint is the Speaker Volume is a bit Weak, but it is acceptable.
I do not Hesitate in Suggesting this G5 Plus to others, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better phone for under $400.
For Everyday use, like I use mine, This 2GB RAM Version suits my Needs Fine. If you're a Gamer or a Heavy Multitasker you may want to opt for the 4GB RAM version.

I bought this phone with a price match from amazon, so I got it for $170 which is much cheaper than even the sale price for black friday. I am MORE than happy with the phone and it's features and functions. I use it on the Tracfone network, which limits some of the functionality of the phone, but I mainly bought the phone for the camera. I read an article comparing the camera in the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Moto G5 Plus -- the article compared many aspects of the phone and camera and without soaking $500+ into a phone, I'm super happy.
HOWEVER .... I am not happy with the way it was shipped/delivered. It was jammed in a box with another phone I ordered, no packing materials, just two phones in their boxes which were inside a brown box -- not a tight fit. Once I opened the box, the G5 plus box had already been opened .... the seal was CUT and the flap was hanging open. It wasn't just because the seal didn't hold... it was literally sliced open. I did not buy an "open-box" item. I bought a brand new item. Best buy, I am not happy that my brand new item was opened when I received it. What if I would have needed to return it? Then I have to pay your $35 restocking fee because SOMEONE ELSE opened my supposedly "brand new" item?

I had to replace an aging Nexus 5, a phone which spoiled me on good Android implementation. My next phone had to be the same, and I was happy to find that the Moto G Plus was that phone. Good battery life, and good camera, for my limited photo needs. Good buy for those OK with a phone that just works and doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Can't believe how well this works. It is "f-a-s-t", takes very good photos (although I haven't had the opportunity to try it in low light conditions so the jury is still out on that), has plenty of space - especially with micro SD added. A little tricky for me learning the Android system after upgrading from KitKat (it had been awhile) and it is a little less straightforward on using ringtones, moving things to SD, etc. but, after a bit of research, not a problem! Battery life is very good to excellent. Does not have usb-c or ability to pay from phone, but both of those are fine with me. Rapid charging works, well, rapidly! Very satisfied with phone and purchase experience at our BB Mobile (went back within the week and got a $10 price drop to boot).

Needed a new phone without spending an arm and a leg and this phone did just that. I've always liked Motorola phones and have been wanting one but didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on one, but wanted one with decent features and a camera and this one did just that. This phone has a 1089p Full HD screen so everything looks great on the phone and if your looking for a decent camera that shoots HD video then this is the phone for you. You can even shoot in 4K it you'd like.
And the best thing about this phone is that it's unlocked so you can pop in any carriers SIM and your good to go. I'm using a T-Mobile SIM in mine and get excellent service and HD voice and VOLTE and Wi-Fi calling and visual voicemail.

All in all this is a great choice in it's price range but it does have a few quirks. I don't like how the camera protrudes out of the back. Occasionally I accidentally change the volume due to the location and sensitivity of the button. despite having a metal back it doesn't feel like it would hold up to much abuse. Better speaker(s) would be a welcome addition but the provided one is decent. I really like that it doesn't come loaded with bloatware and the performance has been fast and smooth. After a couple of weeks of use I'm glad that I chose this phone.

I had a Samsung Galaxy S4 for three years. I hated it, but it worked and phones are so expensive. I finally dropped it and cracked the screen. Yay! Bought this unlocked Motorola on sale at a very reasonable price. No proprietary software bloat. I'm happy with the increased phone storage. The phone is fast and the battery life is amazing. Speaker isn't great, but I don't care. If I listen to music I use headphones or another device. Love the fingerprint reader! This phone is an excellent choice for the average user isn't motivated by all those bells and whistles.

I really like this phone. It is unlocked and ready to go. It didn't come loaded with a bunch of junk. It needs a SD card if you want to take a lot of photos. Still holds a decent charge even after a year. The camera is good. I am really happy with it and would buy it again. It is not the fanciest but it is worth the money.
