This Moto 5 so far has proven to be a good buy. Two reasons for this: (1) well priced given the features of the phone and (2) a solid feel that fits quite nicely in the hand.
The phone was easy to set up and it charges pretty quickly. So far the battery life is proving to be more than adequate. The phone is used heavily for phone calls, texting, web searches and streaming of both music and videos. So far the phone is handling all of that quite beautifully and with good speed. There is a slight lag when loading heavier apps, but knew this beforehand based on what other reviewers have stated. Spring for the next model up if you want even snappier performance than this Moto 5 offers.
Other reviewers have complained of crackling etc. while talking on this phone. So far the calls on my unit have been exceptionally clear with good volume. I find myself wishing that my iPhone had similar call quality as this Moto 5.
The screen is good quality. While not that of a Samsung or Apple, it more than holds its own. The touch function of the screen works really well. A light touch is all that is required to navigate the phone using the touchscreen.
Overall the build quality of this phone feels really good. The phone also feels comfortable to hold in one or two hands. It seems to have a good balance of height, width and thickness.
While the phone may be considered a cheapie, that’s not what it is at all. It keeps on delighting with the overall quality and very good performance.
Would happily buy this brand again.

This phone is the best Motorola one I've had. I have had a lot of the early smartphones that weren't so good then. But the performance is fast, great camera, and ample storage! (Also includes a microSD slot)
My only complaint is that this phone will randomly shut off and sometimes I won't get phone calls but I get a voicemail. I'm not sure if it's the phone or my service? I use T-Mobile and never had that problem when I had a Samsung phone. Overall, this is an awesome phone.

I bought this phone to temporarily replace a broken one, and I have to admit, this does not feel like a mid range "cheap" phone. The 7.0 nougat loaded on this phone is about as stock as you can get without loading google AOSP yourself.
The display is an IPS panel, and at 5.2" has a decent amount of viewing room. Colors are nice, and overall its a very nice display for what you pay.
It has a snapdragon 625, which is roughly comparable to the snapdragon 808 found in older flagship models, with two major differences. firstly, it runs vastly cooler and I never experienced it heating up even when using the phone to pull data while fast charging. which brings me to the second point. It has up to, if not over, 50% better battery life than the 808. This, coupled with Nougat 7.0, and a healthy 3000mAh battery meant that I could regularly go for over a day of usage without charging. And when I did charge, I could get back around 30% in 15-20 minutes.
the animations are nice and smooth, but it does begin to stutter when loading up live wallpapers. For those who care, it is carrier unlocked and works on all carriers, and the bootloader is unlocked easily. (a side note, the 32 GB model has 2 GB of system ram, whereas the 64GB model has 4GB. If you multitask a lot and leave apps running, You may want to opt for the larger storage model)
If I were to point to the weakest part of the phone, it would be the camera. It is by no means bad, but it simply does not live up to the common expectations of what a smartphone camera should do. Particularly low light turns out pretty bad, and motion is not crisp in almost any situation. If there is good light and a stationary objects it produces good images without much noise.
Overall, if you want a phone that is a real workhorse that does every day activity for days on end with no complaints, and you don't have a lot to spend You would be hard pressed to find a better phone than this.

With the advent of the $1,000 cell phone it's a pleasant surprise when you can get what you really need for just $200 or so. This phone has a zippy processor that can keep up with most activities, a great big HD screen and a passable if not excellent camera. The only caution is that it's a plain vanilla Android installation, so some of the things that come preloaded on the expensive phones will have to come from the Play Store instead. Not a problem.

I bought this phone because I needed a spare phone to use in case we lose or damage a phone. Since it uses the current midrange Snapdragon CPU, it seems to be plenty fast and responsive with normal use. Apps install very quickly. It only has 2 GB of RAM, so once there are enough apps running, it can slow down. Rebooting helps this, but needs to be done every few days. The battery life is fantastic. Being on wifi most of the day and with fairly minimal screen time, I was able to go over 48 hours on a charge. With more heavy use, it should last a day easily. The screen is fine enough. The camera is adequate, but slower than I'd like. The Moto UI is very very close to stock Android, which I really like. OS updates seem to be lagging behind though. Right now (September 2017), it only has the May 1 security update. Fingerprint reader is fast and reliable. The only real negatives are no NFC and no waterproofing.
All in all, this is a good $200 phone that is great as a spare, or great for a young person who needs a full featured device.

I bought this phone for my 12 year-old son and he loves it. Bang for the buck, the Moto G series phones are the best on the market! If I had to, I would buy this phone for my own use!
This is the 5th Moto G phone I have bought for others; on my way to buying 2 more.
Awesome cameras, all day battery, micro SD expandable up to 128GB, Android 7.0, awesome screen resolution, finger print sensor, water repellent....need i say more! Buy It! You won't be sorry.

My needs were medium-duty screen resolution and quality, latest Android o/s, decent camera, 32GB memory and a fingerprint sensor. This phone does an excellent job meeting those requirements at a great price. I lowered my rating by one star because for some reason Lenovo decided to equip only the non-USA model with NFC. The pain for me not having NFC is no Android Pay. This is very disappointing and I was going to reduce by two stars. However, it is otherwise a really good phone so I left it at a one star penalty.

This might not be a 'flagship' phone, but in many ways you'd never know it. The display is brilliant and even though it's not 4K, it's bright and crisp and you'd never know the difference. The touch screen is responsive and the software runs quickly and smoothly. It's nearly a stock Google Android experience with full access to the Google Play Store, good customizability and no bloatware to get in the way.
Despite the plastic-y feeling back, the phone feels solid. My only complaint are the large bezels all the way around the display. Speakers are loud and clear too. The rear camera takes amazing pictures in good lighting, but taking pictures in low light can be a little challenging. The front camera is capable, but not outstanding. And battery life is excellent, lasting all day and then some with moderate use.
For the price, you will never find a better phone. The Moto G5 is definitely the one to beat in this category.

Great phone with 32GB storage and an sd slot for even more expansion. Has a dual sim card slot. Unlocked for all major cell phone providers just in case you want to change providers. Most unlocked phones are good for only one of the technologies. The phone is fast to respond to all programs and activities. The only issue I have is I wished that the sound level was higher for the phone and notifications. Plays Netflix and Youtube without any issues. Battery life is very good. Don't have to worry about it during the normal day.

So I'm very frugal and refuse to pay $1000 for a phone or $20/month for 2 years. My old phone, which was a Samsung S5 that I got on eBay, got wet the day before I was headed out of town for work. I have Verizon Prepaid so I went to Best Buy to grab a new prepaid phone but I decided to look at the unlocked phones too. I ultimately decided to get this Moto. The battery life is AMAZING compared to my old S5. I flew from Norfolk to Phoenix (changed planes once) and listened to music both flights and still had tons of battery power left. I'm not a heavy phone user but I have never ran out of power. I charge it overnight and it's good all day with power to spare. I also like the fingerprint reader. It works great. Overall a very good phone. I have all of the features that I would need with a fraction of the cost of the more popular phones. When it's time for an upgrade...I will be buying another Moto.

I had the Moto G4 Plus and it performed very well for what I needed - occasional phone calls, texting, using apps, occasional pictures, internet searches, etc. The battery began struggling to hold charge after a couple of years, so I stayed with the Moto G line and it didn't disappoint. The G5 Plus has a beefier processor and the battery life is excellent. Plus there is plenty of storage (32 GB, which is more than I'll ever need because I don't store my music on it), and 2 GB of RAM, which is actually plenty unless you're a heavy gamer or have a ton of apps open all at once (why would you?). The rear camera takes good pictures (I'm not a professional nor do I need a camera that professionals use). I've used higher end phones and didn't notice the performance difference for most of what I do. Highly recommended.

I bought this phone as a gift for my son, so I don't use it every day. But I did have the opportunity to activate it and set it up.
The phone is a great alternative to a more expensive flagship phone when you have to buy your own phone . It is unlocked with both GSM and CDMA access, so you can use any carrier. It has a very good camera, lots of convenient gesture shortcuts, fingerprint reader, etc. The only thing that you would get from a more expensive flagship phone is a somewhat sharper display, slightly faster RAM, and slightly higher definition photos. These kinds of upgrades become unnecessary when there's a $500 difference in price. This phone offers all that you need, and does not feel cheap at all. I've asked my son about day to day use, and so far he's loving it. I'm looking forward to buying one for myself in the near future.

I had my doubts when Lenovo purchased Motorola. I purchased the Moto G4 Plus when it came out and I was amazed by that phone, even though it was considered a low-mid range phone.
I got a little excited when I received an email from Motorola saying the G5 was coming out soon. Since I was curious about the new specs, style and of course price, I went to their website to read about it.
When I started seeing the new metal body, slightly updated chip, and it only comes in 32 or 64 GB, I surely thought the price would be higher (much higher).
When I got to the end and saw the starting price of $230, I couldn't believe it.
I went to my local BB to trade some things in to get it, and that took a rather long time. They weren't courteous, as usual, and they didn't know what I was talking about when I said I wanted to purchase a Moto G5 Plus. They sent me over to the phone people, who in turn were not as nice.
They told me they don't have any on hand and weren't getting any. I let them know their website says they have it and I verified with the BB 800 number that they had 2 on hand. He told me they don't have any because their computer says they don't have any.
I let him know that I work retail as well and computers can be wrong and asked him to physically look. After opening 4 cabinets and then going to the drawer that has the unlocked phones, guess what was in there? The Moto G5 Plus.
Long story short, I love the phone. I have had no issues since having it and my phone has been unplugged since 6:30 this morning and I am at 81% left, and that's after many phone calls, lots of texts and surfing the internet. I couldn't be any happier.

I love this phone like I nothing else. It's probably my favorite piece of technology that every existed. From the camera (better than the average Android camera) to the finger print recognition, it is superb. It has THE MOST AMAZING battery quality I've ever seen. It changes so quick, like, you can take a shower and when your done it's fully charged....bruh. And it loses battery so slow, so, you can wake up with a fully charged phone, and by the end of the day your phone can be on at least 20 (or maybe even higher) percent. And I mean end of the day like going to sleep end of the day. But AVOID BATHROOMS. They tend to crack phones when they are connected with one like this. Or maybe that's just me....

I have been using this phone for over a week and it has been great. Nice screen size and form factor. Phone is very fast and responsive. It takes great pics and I love the pure Android 7 OS. It does not have NFC but I don't use my phone for payments. I didn't want to drop $600 or more on a phone and I didn't want payments with my carrier. The price for performance of this phone is great.

I bought this after checking and comparing prices and quality for many 32g cell phones and found that this had everything I needed. It's not too big or heavy, I love the features and it is pretty easy to operate, I didn't even have to read the brochure in order to figure out how to use it and for an older person that's great. It's very fast if you have good WiFi coverage, the sound is pretty good loud enough for my slightly hearing deficiency and it takes great pictures the quality is very good, price was also a great incentive for buying this and Best Buy pricing couldn't be beat. If you want quality and value buy this phone.

I am very happy with this phone (actually bought 2 - gift for wife). Very easy to use and great battery life. These are the first smart phones we ever had and I am surprised how quickly they became essential. After much internet research, I'm glad I picked these.
