I put this device in an upstairs bedroom in order to extend wifi signal to a 600sq.ft. apartment addition we added over our garage. Wireless router is located on first floor on opposite end of house from addition and location of this device. Works great. Signal is strong to the apartment space. I would think your idea to place it along the backside of your house would extend the signal into the back yard. Good luck!!
