• Yes, but you have to call Verizon to unhook their modem from their system on their side. Took 10 minutes. Great results.

• Yes. Assuming your Verizon FIOS provided you a router/modem. You can also go back to Verizon and inform them, that you simply need a modem and not a combo device. This will make installation less confusing as you won't have to figure out how to disable the FIOS router.
