your phone is always connected to your provider internet. when you are in the house it connects to your home network automatically. You don't need to hook up the phone.

A lower class voice modem just for the phone, like the Arris 822 would suffice. Then a good modem for internet only. You'd have to have your isp deactivate the internet on the phone modem and put it on the internet only modem. The internet modem connects to this, the router. A router does wifi and connects hardwired Ethernet cables, like an Internet splitter. However, there are many voip phones that plug into a router. Vonage is one off the top of my head.
