“I just had Comcast add Home Security to our home - this service comes with a special router from Comcast. Can I use this Modem/router - but not use the router part of it? That is use this unit, but keep the router Comcast just installed.”

The home security bit comes with a cable modem and router in one. You have to use it so Comcast can configure what they need to. You can daisy chain any other wifi router into that unit for privacy of your wifi.
