The main reasons I switched to mesh was to have a single network name, wifi range, and signal strength. With a wifi extender setup, you generally will have multiple network names as the signal is bounced from extender to extender. While moving through your home you will need to switch between those networks. With a mesh network, there is only a need for one name and it is carried throughout the home. I have also found that the signal strength is better with mesh. I have had both, and sm much happier with my mesh setup. Cox's panoramic wifi is a mesh based network.
