Q: QuestionWe have internet cable. There isn’t anything else where we live. We live in a rural community with only one provider. My provider actually recommended a mesh system. I have a Netgear router with the cable router. Can this system go with what we have?

• A:Answer This system has its own router. You would replace your existing router with the Orbi. If you have an all in one router/modem, you would need to disable the wireless functionality. Easier than it sounds and your internet provider should be able to talk you through it on the phone.

Q: QuestionSonos looks for a 2.4ghz band vs 5ghz... is this a problem if the Orbi looks like a single network?

• A:Answer Orbi is a single network SSID, but both 2.4 and 5GHz bands function in that network. There is another 5GHz channel (that's why they are called tri-band) for backhaul connection between the router and satellites so their connection doesn't take away from the bandwidth available to the end devices.

Q: QuestionCan the Orbi satellite connect to he other satellite or do they both communicate to the Main Orbi Router only?

• A:Answer Yes it can. I have my base with my DSL at one end of the house. Satellite 1 about in the middle and satellite 2 at the opposite end of the house. Everything is working well and I’m getting full DSL speed throughout my house now

Q: QuestionIf I buy this mesh router would I need to buy a stronger modem ? I have spectrum and just updated my system through them and I am not happy with the buffer and signal loss. I have the most expensive deal with hey have. They said I need a stronger router

• A:Answer I also have spectrum and you shouldn’t need to replace the modem. Test your system hardwired for your true modem speed, you will probably find the issue is the router as long as your connections are secure. This takes the place of the router only. No coax connection

• A:Answer We have a 400 mbps plan and the speed consistently reads over 450 mbps throughout a house of 3260 sq ft and 2 story. This includes the former dead spots in our home. We have invested in a lot of home automation gadgets (Amazon echos, smart bulbs, smart switches, Rokus, Apple TV’, 3 iPhones, 3 PCs, a movie theater room, 2 iPads, 3 gaming systems- PS4, Oculus Rift, Gaming PC, Ring doorbell and chimes.... you get the point) Currently, the Orbi app says we have 36 devices connected. We may not be using them all at Once but haven’t noticed a drop in quality of Wi-Fi coverage. I think you have nothing to be worried about. Get it!

Q: QuestionWill the Orbi AC2200 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi System (3-Pack) work with Spectrum internet speeds greater than 200 like 400 or do I need to buy the next Orbi model which unfortunately is only a 2 pack?

• A:Answer That Orbi AC2200 Tri-band is the system I have on Spectrum and I have their Ultra so it’s 400+ for downloading. 20+ is their standard upload. I’m pretty pleased with it. Just make sure your modem is up to date too. I just installed the mesh system about 2 week’s ago and we have seen a huge improvement on this Orbi set up.

Q: QuestionMy Netgear router is upstairs. I use my tablet downstairs mainly in one room. Can't I just buy one band mesh unit rather than the 3?

• A:Answer The large Orbi becomes your new router. The 2 smaller ones are the satellites so you would still need 1 large and 1 small for your issue. The spare one you could place somewhere else upstairs to make the signal strong throughout or midway between the 2 rooms to make sure the entire signal reaches your downstairs room or maybe just look for only 1 satellite set.

• A:Answer After looking over the Rise services, it’s hard to tell if there is a difference between the Spectrum service I receive. What I can tell you is that this service works awesome with Orbi. My speeds have never been faster. My speeds are constant and continue to remain that way. I was dropping service every half hour and my speeds were super low. After purchasing this item, my Internet speeds are constant and haven’t had issues since.

Q: QuestionDo the satellites piggy back off of each other to extend the distance from the router or do they only connect directly with the router?

• A:Answer From my understanding, they can piggyback off each other. There is a screen in the user interface called “Network Map”. That screen will show a flow chart type relationship map of your router and satellites. When I first set my system up this chart showed my router feeding my satellite 1, and satellite 1 feeding satellite 2 in a line. Now it shows my router feeding both satellite 1 and satellite 2 more in an upside down “Y” configuration. I’ve attached what the latter description looks like. I assume this pattern changed based on the system always looking for the best configuration for the users needs. Hope this helps.

Q: QuestionThe wiring in our house is set up for an older mesh system: ROUTER ---> ethernet --> AMPLIFIERS (plugged into power outlets) --> amplified ethernet --> SATELLITES (not plugged into a power outlet—power derived from ethernet). Can I use the same wiring?

• A:Answer The NetGear Orbi RBR40 Router and RBS20 Satellites do not have Power over Ethernet (PoE) so the satellites would have to be plugged in to a power outlet. NetGear does make a satellite that supports PoE (https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/SRC60/SRC60_QSG_EN.pdf) but it would have to be purchased separately. Q: QuestionDo the satellites extend the same signal or do they have different names like ext1 ext2 etc. I have a Nighthawk but the repeater has a different name from the main router, i.e. myrouter-5g and myrouter-5g_ext

• A:Answer It is a tri band router. You will have the same 2.4 and 5 GHz signal from all satellites. No ext. names. The third 5ghz signal is for all the satellites to talk to each other without disruption. If you have Ethernet run through the house, you can even hard wire each satellite to the main hubs for even better service.
