This device should be faster than your wifi since you are connecting directly from the router. This network extender uses the electrical wiring in your house/apartment to transmit the signal, so as long as you don't have any interference on the lines you should get good speeds. I think the network extender is rated up to 1 GHz download, but the actual upload and download speeds will depend on the service you're using. You may need to check with your internet service provider to see what speeds your plan is guaranteed to have, and also check the specs on your wireless card. The speeds can only be as fast as the equipment is designed to handle. Usually the download is the faster of the two so you may have the values reversed.
