This is simply a router. You need to have an internet source to plug into it. It then converts that source into wifi which allows you to connect several devices via wifi to your one source on internet. This is the purpose of a router.

You must first purchase an internet service from a provider and have the modem (usually provided by your provider). Some of these modems have built-in routers whereby you only need a switch if you require more ethernet ports (most combination modem/routers have 4 or 5 ethernet ports - a "modem only" will have only one port and requires a router).
