Yes you will have to pay the cable company or other internet provider for the internet service.

This Asus router has nothing to do with your cable company. You will connect your ISP's/cable company's modem to this Router, and then log into the router to setup your Wifi network and password. It's just a few steps and really straight forward. You can even Google or Youtube instructions.
