You do not need an iphone at all. When you connect for the first time, you can enter your WIFI information, you will however probably need a gmail account, since this uses google store. It's a great product, I recommend purchasing a long MicroUSB cable for extended use, instead of recharging every hour..

You don't need a phone to used this one. It comes with an app store where you can purchase games and other stuff. Lots of free games too!
