• Yes, I purchased this player for those reasons. I have several blu ray dvd players by sony, samsung, and other panasonics and did not want to spend a thousand or more for an oppo or panasonic 900. So far I have noticed an improvement in picture upscaling and in music and movie soundtracks. I am running my player on a onkyo 7.1 rec with atmos and dts. very good player for the price. hope this helps
