You do have to apply some force but it shouldn't be anything crazy as far as you feel like you're having to put a ton of muscle into it.

My unit wasn't difficult but it's not an unusual problem. You can try rotating the cord, making sure the alignment is perfect or plugging it in slowly, but ultimately, you may have to give it a little oomph.
