I have had no problems playing older DVDs or Blu-rays on this Panasonic Machine 
I have some very old DVDs and they play fine - this machine improves the picture quality quite a bit
I also have some old blu-rays (original when they first came out) and this machine plays them just fine & improves the picture quality
