All units, even new cars, require the cord for full functionality.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. To use the maps, you have to connect the phone to the stereo through the usb cord. The stereo will then auto detect either Android Auto or Apple Car Play and then allow you to choose which map app you would like to use.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you can connect your iphone directly to the device. Also the same with the Android. This receiver supports both. Apple Car Play is awesome allowing you to control apps (must be compatible with carplay) through the car receiver screen. As far as for example getting texts, You can simply "Hey Siri" and then say "Play my unread messages" and it will do that. Or say "Send Text message to John Doe" and the receiver will respond with asking you what you want to say, then read it back to you and confirm before sending.
