if your rig came fully assembled, check the mike. It connects to the headset via 3.5 mm jack. Make sure it is pushed in all the way. It happens to mine all the time. Mic cuts out or acts like its muted. Or it gets weirdly static-y. I push it in all the way and its fixed. It seems to come out if i lower the mic using the far end of it. Too much downard torque i think.
