It runs on milliwatts on a USB based plug in. It does not have a on-off on the remote. If you want it actually off you unplug it from the power source. It is "instant on" when the TV is turned on.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.There is no on/off switch. The device senses when the TV is on and starts functioning when you press the Home button. It also senses when the TV is turned off and shuts down automatically very soon after it knows the TV is off.
