• There are channels that you can follow as well as various news feeds but I didnt see CNN as one of them. There are a lot of channels, some require a subscription and many are free. There is ABC, NBC, CBS, CW, Roku Channel, and you can use Yahoo and YouTube. I love my Roku but I do not have cable access and I didnt care for satellite. You can also search the Roku website for a complete list if channels. Hope this helps.

• The easy answer is yes...If you are a comcast customer. The Roku app is called "Xfinity Stream" and is still in beta, but works very well. It lets you watch Xfinity live broadcasts based against you subscription.
