“There are 4 black plastic , u shaped washers in the bag with the door screws. What are they for ? There is no mention of them in the instructions and no pictures or other indication of what they are for .”

Those are used to level the doors. They should be different thicknesses. There is a page in the owners manual that tells you how to use them if needed. You don’t have to use them. It’s kind of hard to find in the manual.
